NEOCLASSICAL FRENCH BUREAU, CIRCA. 1780

Ref# RKR-8369
NEOCLASSICAL FRENCH BUREAU, CIRCA. 1780

A French period Louis Seize cylinder bureau in fabulously authentic condition. In typical drawing room fashion of the 18th century, this piece was intended to sit within the room rather than against a wall, and so the four sides were meant to be seen. Rosewood and mahogany veneers have over the centuries turned into mellow tones. Contrast inlay work forms the typical ribbon pattern. Rich gilt bronze details featuring laurel, acanthus leaf, vine and ribbons to the drawer fronts, the legs, the apron, the roll down front and the top. The pull-out writing surface retains the original leather. Three small drawers at level with the desk top, one large drawer beneath. Compartmented interior with some tell tale stains where the ink was kept
